General Population Statistics: Census Tract Data
clear

Use the DataMap Tool to access the following datasets:

This datalayer presents population data from 2000 at the census tract level. The data for each census tract include the number of people, the population density, and the population by gender, by age group, and by other categories. A census tract is a small, relatively permanent statistical subdivision of a county delineated by a local committee of census data users for the purpose of presenting data. For more information about census tracts, see the census glossary.

This data set contains data about households and families in 2000, at the census tract level. A household includes all the people who occupy a housing unit as their usual place of residence; household size is the total number of people living in a housing unit; family is a group of two or more people who reside together and who are related by birth, marriage, or adoption. For more census definitions, see the census glossary.

This data set contains the percentage of homes who returned mailed forms for the 2000 census. For each decennial census, the U.S. Census Bureau mails forms to most housing units. To collect information about households who do not respond by mail, census workers will try to contact them in person or by phone. The Census Bureau does not mail forms to some addresses, including areas with seasonal addresses or group quarters, therefore those areas may have missing data in this dataset.

This datalayer contains 1970, 1980, 1990 and 2000 Census data with details such as: population, household, housing characteristics, income, poverty status, education level, employment, housing costs, immigration, and other population characteristics. Census tracts have changed over time in many communities making neighborhood level comparisons over time near impossible. This unique dataset normalizes the data to 2000 Census tracts and provides information for policy makers, community organizations, and researchers who want to analyze changes that have occurred in US neighborhoods over four decades.
